The INAF-Osservatorio Astronomico di Cagliari (INAF-OAC) is one of the 21 institutes of the Italian National Institute of Astrophysics (INAF), public research institute devoted to carry out, promote and exploit scientific research and technology in the fields of astronomy and astrophysics, to disseminate the relevant results, to promote technology transfer towards industry, pursuing excellence goals at national and international level.
INAF-OAC is particularly active in international astronomical projects (with research groups leaders in fields of physics of the interstellar medium, of astrobiology, of galactic and extragalactic masers, of compact objects and pulsars, of extragalactic radio astronomy) but also technological (atmospheric physics, design and development of microwave receivers, development and implementation of astronomical software). Moreover, INAF-OAC is strongly involved in the building, technical and scientifical commissiong of the Sardinia Radio Telescope (SRT). Finally, INAF-OAC promotes and implements lots of outreach projects aimed to promote the astronomical culture towards students of any level and the general public.
